Binance: Changpeng Zhao Supports a Unified Crypto License for ASEAN Countries

Changpeng Zhao (CZ), co-founder of Binance, expressed support for an initiative to implement a “passporting” mechanism for cryptocurrency licenses in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries. This measure aims to facilitate cross-border digital asset exchanges and create a more harmonized regulatory environment for the crypto industry in the region.According to Zhao, the introduction of a unified licensing standard will allow companies licensed in one ASEAN country to freely provide services throughout the entire association. Today, the region has a population of over 680 million, and the digital asset market in Southeast Asia is estimated to exceed $150 billion by 2026. However, regulatory differences among ASEAN countries often lead to delays and additional costs for companies and investors.“License recognition is key to fostering innovation and building trust in the industry. This will lower barriers for startups and ensure a higher level of user protection,” CZ noted at a recent industry forum.Experts believe that such a move could accelerate the integration of cryptocurrency services, increase the inflow of investment, and promote the development of financial technologies in the region. Currently, discussions on standardizing licensing are supported by regulators in Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand, which have already begun working on relevant regulatory initiatives.It is expected that the implementation of a passporting mechanism will enable ASEAN to become one of the world’s leading hubs for cryptocurrency and blockchain companies, as well as increase transparency and trust among users and investors.
